Palmares offers golfers a fascinating combination of course character. Down by the beach there are links holes with flat terrain. From there the course climbs the hillsides to a woodland area of mature pine trees. Views from the club house and parts of the course are genuinely beautiful.
Access to the course is a little obscure as it is set in countryside at the east end of Meia Praia beach near Lagos. From Lagos avenida cross the road bridge and past the supermarket turn right. Go straight over the roundabout at the rear of the marina and continue paralell to the beach. The road has recently been improved. The club house is up the hill.
The course that offers a bit of everything. Some of the holes are level links adjoining the Meia Praia beach whilst the upper part of the course is set in mature pine trees on gently undulating hilltops. The views from the club house and parts of the course is breathtaking.
The 5961m. par71 was designed by Frank Pennink and built in 1975. Unusuall among Algarve courses it is not a center piece for residential development.
