This is a resort which is unashamedly a resort. Large apartments with lots of facilities, a great beach and bars you will feel instantly at home in.

If you have been to the Costa de Sol and enjoyed it you are bound to like Praia da Rocha. What was a beach suburb to Portimao has grown to be a bouncing holiday resort where there is everything you need to have fun.

Praia da Rocha.. The beach of the rocks is a gorgeous strip of golden sand backed by low cliffs. Despite the resorts popularity and masses of apartments and hotels there still always space to catch that tan.

At the western end of the beach the golden sand is broken by the tall pillars of rock that give the beach its name and here you can often find a deserted bay or corner beneath the cliffs.

The main strip at Praia da Rocha just bustles with life. Pedestrians rule here as there is a highway along the back of the resort to take the traffic. Bars and restaurants spill out onto the pavement and the atmosphere is distinctly alive.

Although Praia da Rocha is effectively a suburb of Portimao it is a long walk in the summer sun. There are buses into the town or think about taking a taxi.

If you are on self catering it really will pay you to do your shopping at the nearby mall on the outskirts of Portimao.

A hire car opens the opportunity to see the Algarve and its cheaper to hire online before you leave.

Praia da Rocha now has a marina. At the eastern end of the beach is the broad mouth of the River Arade and beneath the walls of the old fort that guarded the river entrance a new marina has been built.

Along the beach of Praia da Rocha there are water sports centres from where you can wind surf and take boat trips to see the cliffs and grottoes that lie along the coast towards Carvoeiro.

If your idea of holiday bliss is an apartment complex with lots of facilities and soaking up the sun by the pool then this is the place for you. Praia da Rocha has some of the largest apartment complexes on the coast and they are right by the town itself.

In the evening the main strip at Praia da Rocha comes alive with people dedicated to having a good time. There’s Irish bars, English bars, Australian bars even Portuguese bars.. If it’s a romantic supper in a quiet corner or a wild time at the bar, you will find your place at Praia da Rocha.

Just won the lottery. No Problem. Theres a casino to help you get poor again. For the less well off Praia da Rocha has ten pin bowling and the nearby shopping complex has a choice of cinemas. The prices are a real treat after the UK.

From Portimao town center you can take a boat trip up the river to the ancient city of Silves or out to sea to visit the grottoes or see the dolphins. The Autorent office on the main strip offers a wide range of excursions and activities.

If you want to see some of the unspoilt countryside you really will need a hire car as development has spread all along the coast towards Praia de Vau.
