Unlike the other resorts of the Algarve which have grown from small villages Vilamoura was a planned town where all of the development was owned and controlled by one company… and it shows.

Here you will find an ambience which is more international than Portuguese. This could be Spain, Italy or Florida. The towns centre piece is the marina with its lines of luxury yachts, although today more people come for the fine golf courses than to watch the boats.

Vilamoura offers some of the most choice accommodation in the Algarve. Hotels, apartments and tourist complexes form part only of what is on offer. Beneath the pine trees that surround the town there are many fine villas to rent. These are a natural and popular choice with families throughout both the summer and winter seasons.

There’s also a good choice of things to do, boat trips, riding and clays are part of what compliments the more evident golf and tennis. And for a wild night out.. Albufeira is only a short taxi ride away.

Vilamoura has developed the largest if not most prestigious golf complex on the Algarve. The courses lie to the north west of the town centre and marina and considerable effort has been taken to create interest and relief to terrain that was flat marshland. Needless to say, water is a prominent feature of the courses and you may need a spare ball or two.
